ASBESTOS TYPES

Warning Sign

Chrysotile asbestos

Chrysotile is the most common type of asbestos. It is found on floors, ceilings, walls, and roofs of homes and businesses. This asbestos was a big part of automobile brake linings as well as for gaskets, boiler seals, and pipe linings. Recent studies show that it takes more exposure to chrysotile than any other type of asbestos in developing health issues and diseases.

Amosite asbestos

Amosite asbestos has needle-like fibers. It is also known as brown asbestos that comes mostly from Africa. It was used in cement sheet and pipe insulation. Amosite asbestos is also found in insulating board, ceiling tiles, and in thermal insulation products.

Crocidolite asbestos

This is also called blue asbestos and it's known for having the best heat resistance. This has been commonly used to insulate steam engines, spray-on coatings, pipe insulation, and cement products.

Gremolata asbestos

This is found as a contaminant in chrysotile asbestos, vermiculite, and talc powders. Often it has been found as a contaminant in certain asbestos-containing insulation products, paints, sealants, and roofing materials.

Anthophyllite asbestos

Mined in Finland, this type of asbestos displays a grayish brown color. Anthophyllite was most commonly found in composite floor tiles.

Actinolite asbestos

Actinolite asbestos has a rough and harsh texture and is not as flexible as others. It is most often found in metamorphic rocks. But needless to say, it can also be found as a contaminant in many other asbestos products.
